Optimal water use strategies for mitigating high urban temperatures

Abstract. Urban irrigation and road sprinkling are methods for mitigating high urban temperatures which expected to enhance evapotranspiration affect the weather, climate, environment. Optimizing limited water supplies is necessary in regions with shortages. In this study, we implemented usage schemes, including Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model, assessed their effects different amounts of city centers, suburbs, rural areas by using WRF model at a resolution 1 km Beijing, China. addition, developed an optimization scheme cooling effect as optimal objective total supply constraint condition. Nonlinear relationships were identified between consumption both irrigation, due was more effective than that attributed sprinkling. Based on management scheme, according Beijing's 13th 5 Year Plan, about 90 % should be used 10 most approach decreasing 1.9 ?C.
